Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique used in medical emergencies, particularly in cases of cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. For pediatric patients, CPR is even more critical due to the distinct physiological characteristics of children and infants. Nurses are often the first healthcare providers to respond to pediatric emergencies, making their knowledge of pediatric CPR essential for ensuring positive outcomes. However, research has shown that despite the importance of this skill, many healthcare providers in low-resource settings lack sufficient training and knowledge of pediatric CPR, particularly in regions with limited healthcare resources (Sulaimon & Lawal, 2024).
In Zamfara State, where healthcare access and resources are limited, there is a significant gap in knowledge among nurses regarding pediatric CPR. This knowledge gap can delay intervention and compromise the chances of survival for pediatric patients experiencing cardiac or respiratory emergencies. This study seeks to investigate the level of knowledge of pediatric CPR among nurses in Zamfara State, identify the factors influencing their knowledge, and suggest solutions to address the gaps in training.
Despite the importance of pediatric CPR in emergency care, many nurses in Zamfara State lack adequate knowledge and skills in performing CPR on children. This lack of knowledge may result in delayed or incorrect interventions, potentially leading to poor health outcomes for pediatric patients in critical conditions. This study aims to examine the extent of this knowledge gap and explore potential strategies for improving CPR training for nurses in the state.
The study will focus on nurses working in healthcare facilities across Zamfara State. It will utilize surveys and interviews to assess knowledge levels and barriers to training. Limitations include challenges in accessing remote areas and potential biases in self-reported data.
